AKWAABA (welcome) in Ghana.
December 26, 2012: Accra,capital city of Ghana, Ghana counts about 20 Mio very friendly people, all speaking English very well! After a 6 hours flight by KLM and because of platinum membership, we got a free upgrade to business-class, we arrived @ Accra! Hotel booked by hotels.com: "Royal African Beach"- resort, with swim pool, rooms with beach view and situated "on the beach"! Prices including airport pick-up! We arrived in time @ the airport, went through migration and customs and. . . . . No pick-up! After some calls and 1 hour waiting a small bus arrived! La Palm Royal Beach resort Accra! Great we jumped in and arrived after 30 minutes at: the wrong hotel Palm Royal Beach iso Royal African Beach! We were not on the list! So called a driver again,to collect us for a short trip to the right resort!
The Hotel was very nice decorated, with many wooden statues of local people and local animals, also with a pool and ocean view! But our room was small and not clean! Just one towel per person and no toiletries, but the Strong Margarita was good!
Next day after poor breakfast, and a look in the dirty pool we went to swim in the sea! But fencing was closed! To dangerous, many sharp rocks and very strong waves! So we decided to walk along the beach, but many rocks, much waste and waste water flow into the Ocean! No swimming water at all! And many dark brown people along the shore! We decided to go back and take a car with driver to go into the city! Sightseeing and have a look for alternative accommodation! From Golden Tulip-, Novotel- till M"ovenpick-hotels and some local hotels we all have seen them and negotiated the price! But we ended up on the seashore again at La Palm Royal Beach hotel! Indeed the first one! We got about 50% discount and decided to stay! Pick-up the suite cases at Royal African Beach and checked out! And on our way back, made our complains at Hotels.com and claimed our money back! During the day-trip we have visited Oxford (shopping)street, the Dr. Kwame Nakumah memorial garden, (he was one the big 6, who made Ghana independent in 1957 and the first president of Ghana. We also visited the Ghana National museum and the handy crafts market! Now we are sitting around the big pool, and swim 2 times a day in the ocean, we see how local fisherman, after hard work, bring in the catch of the day and we enjoy the very nice weather: 28 degrees nice sunshine and real fresh Pinacolada or strong Magarita! Life is good!
That night we celebrated New Years Evening, with fireworks on the beach! We were looking forward to it, after the good experience at Bali and Aqaba! Day after we did the traditional New Years Dive for sure, not bad with 28 degrees, hi hi :-) (see pictures) About the people:
The man are slim and with good muscles or they are like me and Cassius Clay, heavy weight and strong, while the woman are slim and elegant like a giraffe or they are heavy and fat with wide hips, big tits and their buck far outside their back! One can easily put something on it without falling of, and most of these woman also have big zulu-lips! Great kissing!
The second week went to Kakum National Park, a rain forrest with 7 canopy bridges in the top of the trees about 45 meters above the ground, with nice views over the forrest! In the afternoon we visited one of the 17 slave-castle's, Elmina Castle, at Cape Coast from where thousand of slave were collected before being sold to USA, Brazil, UK, Suriname, etc..indeed the Dutch played a bad role in this slavery trade! On our way back to Accra, we saw much of daily live in Ghana! Many small (work)shops and merchandising on and along the roads. Many colour full people and many woman carrying the goods on top of their heads! Up to 50 kg we were told!
Besides the very nice atmosphere and perfect swimming conditions we enjoyed sunrise and sunset on the beach! We saw the hard work of fisherman pulling on long robes the catch of the day onto the beached! Many local people helped to pull the nets on the beach! Almost daily the beached is cleaned by yellow dressed woman and looks very clean every day! But the current can be very strong and the waves spectacular! Once I did had to help Antoinette to get back to the beach, because strong current was pulling her into the Ocean! Be careful!
Again a very nice relaxing trip to new cultures, friendly people and good food and perfect weather conditions! Goodbye Accra, so long!

Vergat ik nog te vertellen, maar onze waardering voor Roos in Rwanda is toch weer flink gestegen, om daar zo op je eentje naar toe te trekken en er de mensen te helpen. We zitten nu nog op bijna 5000 km afstand van Roos, anders waren vast even aan komen wippen.

Hoi Anton en Antoinette,
Leuk verslag van jullie reis naar Ghana! Na de eerste strubbelingen toch nog een relaxte ervaring geworden én weer reuze interessant. Gelukkig dat Antoinette toch nog uit de golven kon komen....we hebben soortgelijke ervaringen opgedaan op Bali en aan de franse Atlantische kust...je moet echt opletten.
Siddha zwemt sindsdien niet echt meer....zo geschrokken is ze.

Wow wat een prachtig verhaal Anton en Antoinette!!! Een van mijn schoonmakers (hulpjes) in Huizen was Charles uit Ghana. Goedlachs, vriendelijk maar vaak moest ie herhalen wat ie zei omdat ze met zo'n accent spreken.
Klinkt als een hele leuke vacantie! En nu weer aan het werk.............en later naar het ziekenhuis. Houd ons op de hoogte svp. Veel liefs en sterkte, Marie-Jose -

Zee, klinkt goed! En bedankt voor de waardering en nogmaals voor de Iphone, ben er super blij mee!!!! Verder hadden jullie beter hierheen kunnen komen misschien!Of anders een volgende keer! Alle hostels en hotels die ik hier heb gezien zijn schoon!! Ik heb heerlijk gezwommen in lake kivu, maar geen vuurwerk met oud en nieuw! Ik ben wel nieuwsgierig geworden wat er mis is met donkerbruine mensen? Of was dat juist iets positiefs?!

Leuk om je verslag te lezen, heb je geen Burkinabe gezien in Ghana, het ligt pal boven, Gelukkig is je verblijf toch nog goed verlopen na aanvankelijk geen reserverig in het hotel.Waren er meer gasten of hebben jullie je alleen met elkaar bemoeit???

Hallo Anton,
Mag ik me even voorstellen. Ik ben John van Creij en wil je complimenteren met de prachtige reisverslagen en de schitterende foto's! Is er een plek op deze planeet waar jij NIET bent geweest? Mijn vriend en ik zijn allebei gek op stedenreizen en waren van plan om op "waarbenjij.nu" eveneens een reisdagboek bij te houden en zijn wat reisverslagen aan het lezen om eens te kijken hoe dit in z'n werk gaat. Wat ik nu zo leuk vind is dat ik toevallig op jouw foto's na 35(!) jaar mijn lerares Nederlands weer eens tegenkom. Ik heb bij haar nog examen gedaan in mei 1978. Ze heette toen Antoinette Wismeijer en woonde toen in Geldrop geloof ik. Ik heb de laatste twee jaar op die school waar ze toen les gaf als erg prettig ervaren en zij hoort ook bij dat beeld dat ik nog van die jaren voor ogen heb. Bovendien schijn jij bij een bedrijf te werken dat zijn hoofdzetel in de plaats heeft waar mijn wederhelft woont. Kan het toevalliger? Ik weet het niet. Wat ik wèl weet is dat de wereld vanavond ERG klein is!

Inderdaad ben ik met DE Antoinette Wismeijer getrouwd in 2008. Wat een toeval!
